WEBP: the modern image format
What WEBP does well
WEBP supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation. A lossy WEBP is typically 25 to 35 percent smaller than an equivalent JPG, which makes pages load faster and saves bandwidth.
Modern browsers render WEBP natively, so it has become a sensible default for websites and apps that control their own content.
When to convert WEBP
Older desktop software, some email clients, and certain printers still do not handle WEBP. Convert WEBP to JPG or PNG before sending it to people or systems with unknown support.
Photos convert well to JPG. Graphics with text or transparency should go to PNG to keep edges sharp.
